Getting flue shots in my country is not a thing; we prefer to fight off the flue ourselves using mor e " home-based" medicine. Coming to US for the first time included getting my first flue shot since I can remember (I might have got some shots when I was baby). Till today I have mixed feelings about the flue shots, but I have got them in the last seasons. I get the idea that it is more essential to get the shots here, since LA is one of the biggest metropolises in the world and where around 4 million people from all over the world have come together to live. More people the better the diseases spear around us. On the other hand, there is a debate that pharmacy chains promote people to get flue shots in order to make more money.

Pharmaceutical companies are billion-dollar business and they need people to use more medicine. Even though flue comes in seasons advertising of the vaccine has become an almost year-round industry. Furthermore, CVS offers a 20-percent-off shopping pass for everyone who gets a shot, while Walgreens donates toward international vaccination efforts. Many experts say that the marketing may be surpassing medical wisdom since it's unclear how long the immunity imparted by the vaccine lasts.

Flue is bigger problem among old and young, since their immune systems are the weakest. The board says antibodies created by the vaccine decline in the months following vaccination, primarily affecting person age 65 and older. John Treanor, a vaccine expert at the University of Rochester medical school states that the data about how long the antibodies last in your body is very mixed. For example other studies state that, you still have protection from the shot you got last year if it's a year when the strains didn't change. Therefore people and even doctors are confused when is the best time to give flue shots. Haynes form University of Connecticut said that "The ideal time is between Halloween and Thanksgiving", but there are no studies included.

Since the marketing has stretched the flu-shot season and the stores have figured out how to deliver medical services in an on-demand way, people do go to pharmacies more often. Which again is good for the business. Flue is responsible for about 3,300 deaths a year and if getting a shot reduces the risk of flue up to 60% then it seems good thing to do. In my opinion, getting a flue shot is not essential, but there is no harm doing it also. If pharmaceutical companies are trying to pump more money out of us, then we just have to see through it.
